Anthropology of Sport Photo Contest: Body Category Finalist

Description: Holding on to small crevices and ripples by two fingers fighting against gravity. The climber pushes his own mental and physical limites in order to conquer the rock.

The satisfaction of one great move after another defines him. No rope increases fear of falling, fear of the bad fall, the one that will hurt. Techniques, strength, improvisation and anticipation face off with the thoughts of failure-Will I make it? Will this grip hold?

Curled up toes inside tight shoes, chalky-bruised fingers are the climber´s witness of daunting experiences of success and failure.

Yet his spirit remains free as his knuckles and knees bleed mid rock high thinking of his next grip.
